Aeration is a mechanical process that pulls small plugs of soil (about the size of your little finger) out of your lawn. This treatment relieves compaction, reduces thatch, and allows water, nutrients, grass seed and air to get into the root zone where it can do the most good.
Aeration will strengthen the root system which will allow your lawn to handle the stress of heat, drought, insects and disease. This should be done at least once per season in the spring when the ground is soft. If you prefer, this can also be done in the late fall. The plugs should be left on the lawn to be reabsorbed and not raked off. The plugs will disappear within a few weeks or possibly sooner if you water your lawn.
